Dr Jennifer Tan

MBBS BE (Uni Medal) PhD FRANZCO

Dr Tan is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO). 

Dr Jennifer Tan is committed to providing up-to-date, evidence-based and safe treatment to ensure the highest standard of care for her patients. She makes herself as available as possible to both patients and referrers. She is known for delivering exceptional clinical care with a professional and caring approach.

Training

Dr Jennifer Tan completed her undergraduate medical degree at The University of Sydney.  She undertook specialist ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, Victoria.

Dr Tan then completed a Cataract and General Ophthalmology Fellowship at Monash Hospital, Victoria’s largest cataract service provider. She gained substantial experience in cataract surgery. 

Dr Tan has a special interest in Oculoplastics (eyelid and tear duct surgery). She completed  sub-specialty training in oculoplastics through the prestigious Orbital Plastics and Lacrimal Fellowship at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. 

Work and Research

Dr Tan has a PhD in Medicine from the University of Sydney for which she was awarded a NHMRC research scholarship. Her research was part of the Blue Mountains Eye Study, a landmark population-based study in ophthalmology. Her PhD thesis examined possible links between cataract and macular degeneration and cardiovascular risk factors, including smoking and nutrition. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and presented her work at several national and international conferences.

Dr Tan has a public appointment at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. She is involved in teaching future ophthalmologists.

Beyond Work

Outside of medicine, Dr Tan loves playing the electric guitar, and has had a life-long interest in flight. Prior to her medical career, Dr Tan was an Aerospace Engineer having studied at the University of NSW under the prestigious Co-Op Scholarship. She was the first woman to be awarded the University Medal from the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of NSW.

Dr Ching Ng

Dr Ching Ng is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. Dr Ng is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with a special interest in medical retina and cataract surgery.

Dr Ng obtained her Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery with Honours at The University of Melbourne. She went on to specialise in Ophthalmology, completing her training at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital. Dr Ng subsequently completed a subspecialty Fellowship in Medical Retina at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital, where she now also works as a Consultant Ophthalmologist.

Dr Ng is dedicated to providing professional, caring and up-to-date patient care.

Dr Mei Hong Tan

Retinal specialist and vitreo-retinal surgeon

Dr Mei Hong Tan is an Associate Ophthalmologist at Pakenham Eye Clinic and a Consultant Ophthalmologist in medical and surgical retina at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Mei Hong graduated with honours in medicine and completed her ophthalmology training in Oxford, UK at the Oxford Eye Hospital and John Radcliffe Hospital.

In 2012, Mei Hong underwent fellowship training in medical retina and vitreo-retinal surgery. Mei Hong is fully trained in the diagnosis, management and surgical treatment of retinal diseases and has experience in uveitis and ocular oncology. Mei Hong has performed over 800 vitreo-retinal procedures, including retinal detachment repair, macula hole surgery, vitrectomy for epiretinal membrane, complicated diabetic delamination, subretinal displacement of macula haemorrhage, lens/IOL retrieval and exchange and regularly performs complex operations.

Mei Hong primarily enjoys treating and taking care of patients, and places importance in taking the time to engage patients on a personal level to help them to understand their condition. Clinics and research aside, Mei Hong enjoys spending time with her young children.
